Meet Edwin Hernandez-Martinez, MSW LMSW,

Adult Trauma & Attachment Therapist

About Edwin (He/him)

I have lived experience with immigration* and I offer therapy in English and Spanish. I work with adults and specialize in immigration-related trauma, abuse, emotional neglect; eating disorders and body image concerns.

I also specialize in working with adults who are bothered by relationship patterns that keep repeating, even though you know that you want to do things differently.

I love helping individuals who want to break cycles of abuse to understand what happened to them and how it impacted them. I enjoy walking with my clients on the journey of healing using a variety of therapy methods rooted in cultural humility, relational neuroscience, parts work and Polyvagal Theory.

I use a relational psychodynamic approach based in Polyvagal Theory and informed by my fellowship at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy + Psychoanalysis (ICP+P). In our work together I will draw from my toolbox including Parts Work (based in IFS), mindfulness, DBT, and Embodied Recovery for Eating Disorders.

I enjoy helping adults and teens 16+ with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss and eating disorders. I’m currently training in Embodied Recovery, a somatic , sensory and attachment focused method of eating disorder therapy.

I also have a special interest in working with adults who want to do deep exploration of the family of origin patterns affecting their relationships with self and others.

I particularly enjoy helping individuals whose caregivers were detached and unavailable. In our work I can hold space for you to grieve those unmet needs from childhood and learn to build trusting, safe relationships with your partners, children and families.

I believe that by embracing all parts of who we are, we can thrive as whole, integrated relational beings and I loves walking alongside older teens and adults on their journeys of personal growth and healing.

I loves working with those who identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Color, especially First Generation cycle-breakers who are learning to parent differently from the way they were raised. If this is what you’re looking for, click the link at the top of this page to request an appointment!

Edwin earned his masters degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. He has worked with teens and adults in inpatient eating disorder programs, residential settings, the Veteran’s Administration and outpatient community clinics and is supervised by practice owner Laura Reagan, LCSW-C, a somatic and integrative trauma therapist.

Edwin is currently accepting new older teen (16+) and adult clients for virtual and in person sessions.
